Professor Ross Garnaut delivered the 2009 Public Policy Lecture entitled “Ideas, the National Interest and Private Interests in Public Policy: the Case of Climate Change”. The lecture was presented by the Department of Economics and The Melbourne Institute. This lecture covers the processes through which the main ideas embodied in the Garnaut Climate Change Review emerged in the period to September 2008. It describes pressures from private interests on the policy making process as the government formulated its legislation on climate change mitigation and assesses the policy outcomes.
