Management professor Danny Samson comments on BHP Billiton’s strategy of eschewing value-adding in favour of mines and logistics. Professor Samson says there are risks in having so many eggs in one basket and that Australia will not produce a Sony or Samsung because the minerals boom means businesses have no real need to develop new ways of creating value.
