International Accounting Study Program to Europe in January 2013

Majoring in accounting and want to build on your experience? ACCT30011 International Accounting Study Program is an experiential learning opportunity for students to apply their knowledge in the context of different industries, regulatory frameworks and accounting issues in Europe.

Global Consulting Project January 2013: New destinations!

Applications now open for an exciting new destinations!

MGMT30017 Global Consulting Project is a third year 12.5 point capstone subject that gives you the opportunity to gain industry experience in an international setting. You could be spending two weeks in an either Bangkok or Mumbai, working on a genuine business challenge with your peers.

This industry project aims to develop Bachelor of Commerce students’ practical business competencies in an international setting and link with companies on projects related to their discipline.

Twenty students will be selected to travel to each destination – Bangkok and Mumbai – with an academic supervisor. Students will be allocated into teams of four, with each team working with a company on a business project over a two week period (16-31 January 2013).

Employment Experience Fair

Careers & Employment proudly presents the 2012 Employment Experience Fair on Wednesday 1 August 2012 between 12pm-3pm in Wilson Hall, Parkville campus.

Over 40 exhibitors will showcase a variety of 2012/2013 internship and vacation employment programs to penultimate year students, and up to 2,000 visitors are expected to attend. The fair gives students the chance to meet employers from a variety of industries and find out more about getting involved in real work experience while completing their course. Many vacation positions lead to direct graduate recruitment at many of these organisations and are also a great way for students to enhance their employability.

Study Abroad option for Breadth subjects in Indonesia

Would you like to study in Indonesia? Of course you would, because YOU want to be part of the future!

The ACICIS Study Indonesia Program is now taking applications for semester and short-course programs commencing in January 2013. The closing date for student applications is October 1, 2012.

ACICIS (Australian Consortium of In-Country Indonesian Studies) is not just for Indonesian language students! Apart from Indonesian Studies/Language a plethora of programs is available, including:

  • Development Studies (semester-long or short course; already approved for credit by Dev. St. department).
  • Journalism Professional Practicum (short course; limited places)
  • International Relations.
  • Immersion/Field Study.
  • Islamic Studies.
  • Indonesian Language Teacher Immersion (semester-long or short course).
  • Indonesian Art/Music.

Indonesian Language skills are not necessary for most programs, but a willingness to learn is of course a great plus. For details please see the ACICIS website.

Short courses will not be approved where the course dates overlap with the Melbourne semesters.

Student Experience E3 Expo

Student Experience E3 Expo (Enrich, Experience, Enhance) is a popular one-stop showcase of opportunities for BCom and GSBE students to enhance their future career prospects, develop key skills and expand networks.

E3 puts you in touch with leadership and volunteering opportunities, student exchange, clubs and societies, mentoring programs, work experience and much more. Talk with fellow students who have recently returned from studying overseas on exchange, your student clubs and professional associations representatives, and key university and external providers. Lunch is provided and don’t forget to pick up your show bag with great free stuff!

Peer Writing Tutor program starts Week Two!

Do you want to talk to someone about your writing? The peer tutors in the peer writing program are senior students who are exceptional writers and they are available to help you with questions about your writing. You can ask the peer tutor about referencing conventions, grammar, whether your essay flows logically and makes sense and many other questions that come up in a writing task.

A peer writing tutor will be available at the following times:

  • Monday, 2:00-4:00pm
  • Tuesday, 12:00-2:00pm
  • Thursday, 12:00-2:00pm

Please come along with a hard copy of your work. The peer writing program is a drop-in service so an appointment is not necessary, however in busy periods there will be a system to reduce queues and waiting times.

All sessions will be conducted in the FBE Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (formerly TLU)  meeting area, Level 5, The Spot

 

ESSA proudly presents Q&A

The Economics Student Society of Australia (ESSA) proudly presents Q&A. This event will be in the style of the ABC’s Q&A television program. You will have the chance to ask an expert panel questions related to two economic issues of particular importance in Australia –  immigration and the two-speed economy.

 

Panellists include:

George Megalogenis, respected economics journalist with The Australian

Stephen Koukoulas, Managing Director of Market Economics and former economics advisor to PM Julia Gillard

Dr W. Max Corden, pre-eminent international economist from Melbourne Institute

James Paterson,  Editor of the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) review

Professor Neville Norman, Economist, Consultant to the Public and Private sectors and Academic at the University of Melbourne

Stephen Long (moderator), Economics Correspondent at ABC

Light refreshments will be served at an informal networking session after the debate, where George Megalogenis will be signing copies of his new book The Australian Moment.
