Applications are now open for the Global Consulting Project December program to Santiago, Chile. In 2012, students completed consulting projects for a range of companies including BHP Billiton, Orica, Pacific Hydro, Komatsu Cummins and Sedgman.

MGMT30017 Global Consulting Project is a for-credit subject available to all Bachelor of Commerce students.

Fully funded Study Tour of Japan – applications open!

The Mitsui Educational Foundation is running an all-expenses-paid Study Tour of Japan from 19 November to 10 December 2013 and are looking to select one full-time undergraduate University of Melbourne student to participate. The student must be an Australian citizen.

The study tour includes the following activities and the successful applicant will join a group of students from universities across Australia.

  • a briefing on Mitsui’s business at their Tokyo headquarters
  • site visits to Nippon Steel and Toyota factories
  • a briefing on bilateral relations from the Australian Ambassador to Japan
  • an international relations class at Keio University in Tokyo
  • a chance to meet Japanese university students selected to work at Mitsui as graduates
  • a three-night homestay with a Japanese family in the city of Chigasaki
  • visits to places of historical and cultural significance in Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima.

Applications are due to Melbourne Global Mobility by Monday 20 May. Application instructions, the application form, and more information can be found in the links below (for the instructions and the form please scroll down to “Japan” on the page).

After applying students may be interviewed and four students will be nominated to Mitsui. The participant will be selected from the final four by the Mitsui Educational Foundation after an interview.

Intensive Finance subject in Zurich, July 2013

The School of Management and Law at Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) are offering an intensive program in Alternative Investments this July.

This unique program, taught in one of Europe’s major financial centres, is run by  ZHAW in conjunction with Dauphine University in Paris. It comprises two weeks teaching in Zurich as well as a weekend trip to Paris.

The course focuses on the latest research and developments in the field of alternative investments (hedge funds, private equity, leveraged buyouts and non-traditional investments) and aims to increase your ability to analyse the potential of alternative investments and understand the implications of various investment strategies. It is taught by alternative investment experts from France and Switzerland as well as Zurich-based hedge fund managers.

The course is taught in English and is suitable for credit to your BCom as a level 3 Finance elective through the study abroad program (provided you meet the eligibility criteria for study abroad).

The deadline has been extended for Melbourne students until Saturday 15 June.  Students should ideally have completed or be currently enrolled in Business Finance.

Short study programs in Hong Kong, France and the USA – winter 2013

Want to escape winter’s chill this July? A number of short programs are run by AIM Overseas, an Australian study abroad provider working with universities across the world. These courses are taught in English and could count for credit towards your degree through Melbourne’s Study Abroad program (students must meet eligibility criteria for the Study Abroad program)

Over $6000 in government loans is available to eligible Australian students for this program through OS-HELP.

Thinking of going on exchange? Come along to find out why it’s a great idea, what the best options are for each major and how to structure your BCom for exchange.

Interested in the USA? We’re running a special session for options in the US. This session is co-presented by the Education Abroad Officer for the USA and will run through all the American exchange options for BCom students, including what kind of subjects can be studied where, and what the cut off grades are likely to be for each of our partner universities.
