Student Entrepreneurs IdeaPitch Competition

September 15, 2011 in Clubs and Societies

Victor Hugo once said “there is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come.” These wise words were spoken again, this time by entrepreneur Glen Carlson, at the launch of the IdeaPitch Competition 2011.

The launch, which took place on September 1st, 2011 at the University of Melbourne, marked the beginning of the IdeaPitch Competition, which will run until October 12th, 2011. The competition aims to provide a platform for aspiring students to test their ‘pitching’ abilities and promote their startup to prospective investors.

The event began with a short speech from Marty Drill, CEO of Get Started. Marty emphasized passion as a driving force in an entrepreneur. Following Marty, Glen Carlson delivered an inspirational speech that touched on various topics of entrepreneurship, ending with ‘7 secrets to make your pitch STAND OUT’. The launch concluded with an idea generation workshop ran by Amir Nissen, founder of Student Entreprenuers Inc.

In addition to 20 guests VIPs from organizations such as NAB, Get Started and Pitcher Partners, more than 100 students attended the launch, with more than 80 of those signing up to participate in the competition.

IdeaPitch 2011 will conclude with a closing ceremony held at Match Bar & Grill (249 Little Lonsdale St), from 7:00PM to 9.30PM on the12th of October 2011.  It would feature top entries from the competition as they vie for the top prizes worth over $15,000 in total. Anyone interested in entrepreneurship is encouraged to attend; an event not to be missed.
