 ACCC 2013 Economics and Finance Intern Program

  • 6 Week Internship between 2 January and 8 February 2013
  • Gross weekly salary of $834 for the duration of the program
  • Opportunities in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), including the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), is Australia’s national agency for enhancing the welfare of Australians through a fair and competitive marketplace.

The ACCC is seeking expressions of interest from current third year economics and finance students, who are intending to complete an honours year in 2013, to participate in our Internship Program.

ACCC interns will work within the Regulatory Affairs Division or Competition Law areas of the Commission, promoting competition and efficiency through either:

  • economic regulation of large national infrastructure
  • regulation under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010
  • assessing whether proposed mergers, acquisitions or joint ventures are likely to result in a substantial lessening of competition.

Interns considering honours theses on ACCC regulatory or mergers issues will also be given the opportunity to research and discuss their topics with industry specialists.

Those interns that successfully complete the 6 week program will be shortlisted to the interview / assessment centre stage of the selection process for the ACCC’s 2014 Graduate Program.

Deutsche Bank Penultimate Year Scholarship & Analyst Internship Program

To encourage excellence amongst BCom students, Deutsche Bank sponsors an annual scholarship for full time Bachelor of Commerce students according to the following terms:

1. The scholarship is valued at $6000.

2. The scholarship is open to full time Bachelor of Commerce students undertaking their penultimate year of study. Combined degree students are also eligible but must be in their penultimate year of the degree (the Commerce component may already be completed).

3. The scholarship is for a tenure of one year, is conditional on full time enrolment in the Bachelor of Commerce (or combined degree), and is payable in two instalments: one upon award of the scholarship and the other in the final year of study.

4. The scholarship shall be awarded by the Faculty of Business and Economics, on recommendation of the Dean, after consultation with Deutsche Bank. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview.

5. Selection is based primarily on the basis of academic merit however the committee will take into account extra curricular activities, interpersonal skills and qualities which offer evidence that applicants have a genuine interest in the investment banking industry.

Prizes on offer for the The Malaysia-Australia Business Council (MABC) INTERNSHIP COMPETITION!

Entries are now open for the 2012 Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC) Internship Competition.

The competition is open to Australian and Malaysian students currently enrolled in an institute of Higher Education or VET. The prize consists of an internship in a member company for approximately one (1) month, in addition to a return airfare from Australia.

The prize is awarded to the student who submits the most convincing and engaging presentation on the topic via essay or storyboard mode. 

TOPIC:

The Australian Prime Minister, The Honourable Julia Gillard has commissioned a white paper to guide government policy through the so-called “Asian Century”, stating that “Rapid growth in much of Asia will change the social and economic, strategic and environmental order of our world…”

In considering this statement, please respond to the following questions:

  • In what way/s might you expect your internship in Malaysia to prepare you for the Asian Century?
  • What might be some of the “social and economic, strategic and environmental” issues that we need to be prepared for?
  • In your opinion, what are the skill sets required to meet the challenges of the Asian Century?
