Next Steps Commerce – Semester 2  2012

Brought to you by Careers & Employment and the Faculty of Business & Economics.

Semester 2 KickStart Your Career is most suitable for all students and assists with your ‘Next Steps’, whatever your year level. The aim is to put you in the picture about employment options and job seeking, and to highlight what you can be doing now to ‘Kickstart’ your career and improve your job seeking and employability skills.

Additional support will be provided for recent graduates who are still seeking employment through the Employment Group for Grads (EGG) program on Friday 20 July.

For first year students we introduce you to the ways in which you can make yourself more employable and to build your graduate attributes over the next few years of your study. The first session of employability is very important for first and second year students.

Those in second and penultimate year will be focusing on applying for internships and other work experience opportunities.  There is also a session in September about how to best prepare for Graduate employment opportunities advertised in March 2013.

There is a focus on strategies to assist those students graduating at the end of the year who have not been offered a graduate job by exploring the hidden job market and finally a session for those contemplating staying on for further study.

To register to attend, please go to Careers Online (http://careers.unimelb.edu.au/student)

For final year students, the program offers information on Commerce-specific options, tips on how to make a strong application and present your employability skills, insights into the experience of a Grad Program and other employment for new grads.
For penultimate year students, the program offers all the above, and is a timely opportunity for you to find out what you can do this year to improve your chances of gaining a Grad Employment Program position. As well as exploring other employment options you can also find out about Vacation Programs, increasingly used as a ‘way into’ Graduate Programs.
First year students,  it is helpful to come and find out early in your course how to ‘Enhance your Employability’ through a range of university opportunities and other experiences.
